%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EThe%20owner%20was%20saying%20that%20the%20hotel%20had%20only%2070%25%20occupancy,%20and%20even%20though%20it%20was%20off-season,%20he%20was%20wondering%20whether%20it%20was%20good%20enough.%20(Again,%20Dubai%20was%20a%20bustling%20metropolis%20at%20the%20time.%2070%25%20occupancy%20was%20LOW.)%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EThe%20other%20man%20asked%20the%20owner%20who%20had%20been%20appointed%20the%20General%20Manager%20of%20the%20hotel%20and%20the%20owner%20answered%20'Mohan%20Sundaram'.%20The%20other%20man%20laughed%20and%20said,%20and%20I%20quote,%20%22If%20Mohan%20Sundaram%20can't%20fill%20up%20your%20hotel,%20there%20is%20no%20one%20else%20who%20can.%22%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3E(I%20know%20this%20is%20a%20bit%20of%20a%20detour%20from%20the%20post,%20but%20I%20really%20can't%20resist%20bragging%20about%20my%20awesome%20dad.)%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EAnyway,%20because%20he%20was%20in%20marketing,%20he%20used%20to%20get%20a%20whole%20lot%20of%20promotional%20goodies.%20My%20mom%20had%20her%20own%20business,%20and%20she%20too%20dealt%20in%20promotional%20items%20at%20times,%20so%20the%20only%20person%20excited%20about%20stuff%20like%20that%20was%20your%20truly.%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EI%20had%20pens%20from%20every%20hotel%20in%20the%20city,%20promotional%20tees%20from%20all%20kinds%20of%20cars,%20and%20loads%20of%20other%20knickknacks.%20But%20what%20I%20loved%20most%20were%20the%20diaries.%20%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EThese%20huge%20hard,%20leather-bound%20books%20held%20enormous%20attraction%20for%20me.%20I%20used%20to%20see%20one%20on%20my%20mom's%20table,%20and%20at%20least%20three%20on%20my%20dad's.%20And%20they%20were%20never%20empty%20either:%20there%20were%20a%20thousand%20notations%20and%20scribbles%20along%20the%20margins;%20loose%20leaves%20of%20paper%20shoved%20into%20the%20spine;%20a%20long%20satin%20ribbon%20marking%20the%20date.%20%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EI%20loved%20it.%20%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3ESo%20my%20dad%20got%20me%20as%20many%20diaries%20as%20I%20wanted.%20I%20had%20diaries%20to%20my%20heart's%20content.%20But,%20they%20were%20always%20empty.%20I%20had%20nothing%20to%20write%20in%20them.%20I%20used%20to%20note%20school%20assignments%20in%20them,%20but%20we%20already%20had%20a%20school%20diary%20for%20that%20purpose%20so%20I%20dropped%20that.%20In%20the%20end,%20I%20used%20it%20to%20note%20birthdays.%20%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EFinally,%20I%20gave%20up%20trying%20to%20maintain%20a%20business%20organiser.%20Until%20this%20year.%20My%20mother%20got%20so%20sick%20of%20the%20pile%20of%20to-do%20notes/lists%20on%20my%20table,%20she%20had%20my%20father%20BUY%20me%20an%20organiser.%20%3C/p%3E%20%20%3Cp%3EAnd%20now,%20my%20organiser%20looks%20just%20like%20theirs%20used%20to:%20overflowing%20with%20scraps%20of%20paper,%20and%20pages%20that%20just%20aren't%20big%20enough.%20I%20groan%20when%20I%20think%20of%20all%20the%20work%20I%20have%20to%20do;%20but%20I%20also%20smile%20thinking%20of%20a%20little%20me%2015%20years%20ago,%20who%20would%20have%20loved%20it.%20%3C/p%3E%3Cdiv%3E%3Cimg%20width=%221%22%20height=%221%22%20src=%22https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2162921309957471647-8931949199203889786?l=beingtongueincheeky.blogspot.com%22%20alt=%22%22%20/%3E%3C/div%3E){kind=logo}
