The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) is a collective of lawyers and social activists dedicated to the use of the legal system to advance human rights in India and the sub-continent. HRLN collaborates with human rights groups, and grass-roots development and social movements to enforce the rights of poor marginalised people and to challenge oppression, exploitation and discrimination against any group or individual on the grounds of caste, gender, disability, age, religion, language, ethnic group, sexual orientation, and health, economic or social status. HRLN provides pro bono legal services, conducts public interest litigation, engages in advocacy, conducts legal awareness programmes, investigates violations, publishes 'know your rights' materials, and participates in campaigns.

From 1989, Human Rights Law Network has grown from a fledgling law firm to an organisation with legal aid centres in several parts of India . The Network has grown to become one of the foremost organisations in the country working on access to justice for marginalised individuals and communities. In collaboration with effective communities, NGOs and the judiciary, HRLN also works on training in human rights law, law reform, monitoring and investigation into human rights abuse and ‘know-your-rights ‘publications.

The Human Rights Law Network began its journey in 1989 from tiny premises in Bombay. Today we are most significant human rights law organisation in the country, with over 200 lawyers and paralegals operating out of 26 states/union territories.

We started as a Network to enable common people to use the courts to fight for justice, and it is with that vision that we continue to work and grow.

Note:

Our work is made possible through your generous support. Everyday, HRLN units across the country are called upon to act on a range of issues impacting the rights of the poor and marginalized. Using litigation, education, and publication to create awareness and fight against human rights violations, the focus remains on sustaining a network for immediate, effective and collective action.
