Spinal disc herniation is an injury of the intervertebral disc. A fragment of the pulpy nucleus breaks the disc’s fibrous membrane and protrudes in the spinal canal. The disease usually affects middle-aged people. Herniations generally occur in the lumbar spine, less frequently – in the cervical spine, and only rarely – in the thoracic spine. Herniation is accompanied by severe back pain, movement disorders, and dysfunction of the pelvic organs.
